Park End FC 6-7 The Avenue FC – Match Report

Kick-off 2pm on Tuesday 3rd February.

The excitement was building in the changing rooms as Mr Holmes psyched his team up. The sun had melted the snow and made it a snowy battlefield. Years 3 and 4 Park End vs years 3 and 4 The Avenue in what always promised to be an exciting game. The match was almost called off due to the conditions, but the saviour Mr Storey went out with his brush and the match could continue. Park End FC warmed up in their sky blue kit getting ready for a hard match against a good Avenue team. Mr Holmes, today’s ref, then appeared with his baggy shorts and his 50 pence boots from the charity shop (I hope he doesn’t read this!). The Avenue team then arrived in their royal blue kits, with Mr Holmes’ son, Harry, in their team! Who would Mr Holmes support, the team which he trains or the team his son plays on?

The match kicked off. Park End had about 10 chances, attacking earlier doors lots of times. Kenzie Harker had a great chance but it was an unreal save from the Avenue ‘keeper. The Avenue took the lead when their striker poked it into the netted goal. One minute later and the Avenue made it 2-0 from long range. The Avenue kept applying pressure and before long it was 4-0, It’s like Park End haven’t even came out of the changing room. But wait, Charlie Carmen scored a cracking goal for Park End but it was a cheap one to give away for the Avenue, 4-1. The half time whistle was blown, and Park End were trailing by 3 goals.  Mr Holmes had to find the right words to fire up his team for the second half.

The second half kicked off and a great shot from the Avenue forced an amazing save from Callum Daniels, but he was unable to get the rebound and the Avenue striker made it 5-1. Park End had a dangerous free kick but a great delivery and powerful header from Ellis Cairnes was cleared off the line. A flurry of goals then flooded both Park End’s and the Avenue’s goal nets before the final whistle was blown. 7 to the Avenue and 6 to Park End, better luck next time.

It was a thrilling game jam-packed with goals to warm up the bitter cold day. Park End played a really good game but the Avenue’s early goals cost us the game, we were very unlucky. Mr Storey’s Man of the Match award goes to Kenzie Harker. Well done Kenzie
