Educational Psychology

Educational Psychologists  (or ‘EPs’) are not employed by the school. They work for Middlesbrough Local Authority, and school purchase sessions from the LA.

EPs support the achievement and wellbeing of children and young people aged 0 to 25 years. In particular they aim to promote the educational and social inclusion of vulnerable groups, including those with special educational needs. School will refer to the EP service when they have concerns about a pupil in regards to school and their education.

The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) is the main person in a school who coordinates the work of an EP.  If you’re a professional or a parent who is concerned about a child, and you think working with an EP might be helpful, you should speak to the school’s SENCo. The SENCo will talk about your concerns with you, and then discuss things with the EP, if they think it’s appropriate.
